FLEMINGTON, N.J. - A New Jersey man has learned his fate for sexually assaulting a child, then trying to convince the child's mother to drop the charges.
Carlos Zacarias, 51, was sentenced Friday to 10 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13, according to a news release from the Hunterdon County prosecutor's office.
The assaults happened over several months between Sept. 2017 and Feb. 2018, authorities said.
Zacarias, of Flemington, was also sentenced to a consecutive 18 months in prison for contempt of court, for trying to convince the victim's mother to drop the charges, officials said.
Zacarias was arrested in June 2018 and pleaded guilty in Sept. 2019.
