BARTA suspends evening bus service; Bieber buses also idled

READING, Pa. - As a spring storm continues to dump snow on Berks County, BARTA put the brakes on bus service in Berks County.

With the forecast for a few more inches of snow Wednesday evening, BARTA suspended all service at 5 p.m.

BARTA hadn't reported any serious problems with its buses rolling through the storm during the day, but road conditions were feared to worsen into the evening.

Bieber Tourways opted to cancel most of its bus runs on Wednesday.

Five New York City-bound Bieber buses left Berks -- three from Kutztown; two from downtown Reading -- early Wednesday morning.

They were scheduled to return later in the day, with the last departure from the Port Authority bus terminal in midtown Manhattan set for 12:30 p.m.

Bieber canceled the remainder of its Wednesday service to and from New York City as well as all service to and from Philadelphia.

Passengers with online tickets for Wednesday may use those tickets on Thursday, Bieber said.
