Fire-damaged home fixed, woman gifted puppy from contractor

BOYERTOWN, Pa. - A Montgomery County woman who lost her beloved pets in a fire is opening her heart again, thanks to a generous contractor.

Carol Cantu picked out her new puppy at Zimmers Pets in Boyertown on Thursday.

Cantu lost her pet dog and two cats in a fire at her home in Pottstown in December.

The new puppy is a gift from contractor Chris Kovach, who worked on Cantu's house after the fire.

"And he told me that when he finished my house, he would give me a gift, and this is my gift," Cantu said.

"[The] home's not finished until we get it all back together," Kovach said.

This story actually has twice the happy ending, because Kovach ended up taking home a puppy, too.
