Man must register as sex offender for 2006 assault of teen

READING, Pa. - A Delaware County man has learned his fate for a pair of unlawful encounters he had with a teenager in Berks County more than a decade ago.

A judge ordered Jonathan Scott Buchanan to serve seven years' probation following his guilty plea to charges of corruption of a minor and indecent assault. He must also register as a sex offender for the next 10 years.

Buchanan was initially charged at the time of his arrest in 2017 with statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault, and aggravated assault.

Buchanan's arrest was the result of a woman coming forward with accusations that Buchanan twice assaulted her in October 2006.

The first incident happened during a function at a church in Sinking Spring; the second happened after the function, inside Buchanan's vehicle in a secluded parking lot.

The woman was 15 at the time; Buchanan was approximately 25, according to detectives.
