New haunted attraction in Berks has humble roots

KENHORST, Pa. - Hold your breath and enter if you dare. Kenhorst Horror Nights is the area's newest haunted attraction.

"I actually held on to someone I do not know for life and I hope she forgives me," said patron Janette Rivera.

The person behind it has shown he's qualified to make people quiver.

"For me, Halloween started when I was a boy," said Branden Moyer. "Ever since then it just stuck with me."

Moyer has been scaring people for years, building an attraction in his own backyard known as "Cornstalkers." But with opportunity lurking in a vacant lot in Kenhorst Plaza, Moyer decided to pounce.

His connection with the gym next door to the vacant lot, Retro Fitness, led him to getting a green light to build his new haunted maze piece by piece.

"A good solid four months of building every day," said Moyer.

After a run-through on Thursday, Moyer spent the day tweaking his tricks hoping to send more people home with a Halloween-themed adrenaline rush.

"They liked it so much they wish it was longer," said Moyer with a laugh. "I just like taking guests from reality and just immersing them into an entirely new world."
