Police: Man robs bank in Berks, calls 911 on his way home

CAERNARVON TWP., Pa. - Police got some unexpected help in their investigation of a bank robbery in Berks County.

Officers responded shortly after noon Monday to the report of a robbery at the Ephrata National Bank branch in the 6200 block of Morgantown Road in Caernarvon Township.

Police said the robber fled the bank with cash after showing a teller a note that stated he had a gun. No weapon was shown.

A short time later, police said a man, identifying himself as Kevin Pierce, called 911 and told a dispatcher that he just robbed the bank and that he was on his way home to Honey Brook, Chester County.

Police said they responded to Pierce's home and took him into custody on charges of robbery, theft, and receiving stolen property. He was committed to the Berks County Jail on $25,000 bail.

The stolen cash was recovered, police said.
