Police: Man hit infant with baby bottle, caused skull fractures

A Northampton County man is facing charges after police say he assaulted his baby.

Colonial Regional police were called to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Muhlenberg on Monday for a 2-month-old baby with multiple skull fractures and bruises, according to a news release from police.

Officers learned the infant was in the sole care of her father, Michael Hogg, when the injuries occurred, police said.

Hogg, 28, first told police he tripped and fell while holding the baby and landed on her, authorities said.

He eventually admitted that he intentionally hit the baby in the head with a full baby bottle, police said.

The infant was moved to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest because of the seriousness of her injuries, police said.

Hogg, of the Bethlehem area, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. He's behind bars at Northampton County Prison on $200,000 bail.
