Driver dies after garbage truck crashes into home, rolls


A man was killed in a garbage truck crash in the Poconos, state police said.

The truck crashed into a home in the Kunkletown section of Eldred Township, Monroe County, around 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The truck ran a stop sign on Point Philips Road, tried to turn right onto Lower Smith Gap Road, but lost control and drove off the road, state police said. The garbage truck hit a house, rolled on its side and hit a car parked in the driveway, officials said.

The driver was identified as Oscar Benavides, 49, of Albrightsville.
