Five people were injured Friday after debris flew through a car's windshield on I-476.
Traffic had been stopped on a stretch of I-476 southbound between Route 903 and Mahoning Valley after an accident Friday afternoon.
The accident happened at 4:30 p.m. and involved a passenger car traveling southbound in Penn Forest Township, a Pennsylvania Turnpike official said.
The passenger car was struck by debris from the northbound side. The debris went through the windshield and injured all five people inside.
Two people had major injuries, while three sustained minor injuries.
Two people were airlifted, while three were transported to the hospital by vehicle.
The debris may have come off a tractor-trailer truck hauling small utility equipment, such as forklifts or other similar UTVs. State police are looking for a vehicle of interest.
Police are interested in speaking with the driver.
