Alleged Bethlehem church arsonist headed to trial

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A man charged with setting fire to a Bethlehem church not once, but twice is headed to trial.

Wilmer Ortiz Torres waived his preliminary hearing Thursday.

He was arrested and charged with arson last month after police identified him on surveillance video in connection with a pair of fires at the Pentecostal Church of Bethlehem on Pembroke Road.

Firefighters first responded to a fire there on April 23 and then another one, two days later.

Authorities say the church was badly damaged.
