Police: Driver lost consciousness, ran red light, causing multi-vehicle crash

UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. - Eight people were transported to the hospital for minor injuries after a multi-vehicle crash in Upper Macungie.

According to police, the crash occurred on Route 222 westbound after the driver of a pickup truck lost consciousness and ran a red light.

The truck hit a car head-on on the eastbound side that was stopped at the Breiningsville Road intersection for the red light, police said.

The truck then continued forward and hit a second car on the eastbound side, investigators said.

Authorities are not yet sure what caused the driver to lose consciousnesses.

There's no word whether charges will be filed.

Traffic was slowed in the area while crews worked to clear the scene.

The investigation is still ongoing.
