Violence in Allentown: 17 people shot in last 3 weeks

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Two people were shot outside a popular nightclub in Allentown early Monday morning.

The shooting came during what's turning out to be a violent summer, with 17 people shot in just the last three weeks.

On June 20, ten people were shot outside the Deja Vu Nightclub on Hamilton Street, in one of the worst mass shootings in the Lehigh Valley's history.

It was the beginning of a streak of shootings this summer that are tallying up quickly, most of them happening within blocks of each other.

Five days after the Deja Vu shooting, a 36-year-old man was shot at Fifth and James streets.

Two days after that, a teenager walked into the hospital asking for help. He said he'd been hit at Eighth and West Cedar streets.

A 25-year-old man told police he was shot while running away from gunfire near Seventh and Allen streets on June 29.

The next day, a teenager on a bike was hit near Fifth and Linden.

On July 4, amid fireworks, there was gunfire. A male victim told authorities a group of men walked up to him at Eighth and Liberty and shot him in the arm.

Two people were shot at the MainGate nightclub, bringing a total number of people shot in Allentown since the end of June to just under 20.

Allentown police say they are working on each case, but right now, they can't prove any of this violence is connected. They need help, and it's coming up short.

In many of these cases, police say they're trying to piece together puzzles with victims - and witnesses - who aren't cooperating.

They think Deja Vu was a gang-related shooting. They know many of the other shootings happened near to each other. They are certain somebody knows something.

So they're asking for the public's help to solve what's already happened and to help keep the violence from happening again.

Anybody with information on any of the shootings should contact Allentown police at 610-437-7721.
