Police search for hit-and-run driver in fatal pedestrian crash

Palmerton man killed in South Whitehall crash

SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - Police are searching for a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash Sunday night in South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County.

They're searching for a 2014-2017 Toyota Hylander that's silver or gray with front-end damage. The vehicle could also have a broken passenger side headlight.

Police say a vehicle matching that description hit a pedestrian in the 1700 block of Mauch Chunk Road.

Scott White, 37, of Palmerton, died at the scene, the Lehigh County coroner said.

Authorities closed off a stretch of the road between Scherersville and Custer roads shortly after 9 p.m., when the crash was dispatched.

The coroner arrived at the scene around 9:30 p.m.

South Whitehall Township Police are asking anyone who may have information about this crash, saw a pedestrian walking in the area around that time or may have info on the offending vehicle to give them a call at 610-398-0337.
