A Lancaster County woman is facing charges after police say she did drugs and left her toddler alone in the woods for hours overnight.
State police were notified Monday evening about a missing 17-month-old child in Providence Township, according to a news release.
Hours later, the child was found naked, wearing only socks, in shallow water near a retention pond, state police said.
The girl suffered only minor cuts, scrapes and bug bites, and she was taken to the hospital to be evaluated, officials said.
The toddler's mom, Angela Benedict, was under the influence of drugs and left the child alone in the woods for more than three hours during nighttime hours, state police said.
Benedict, 34, is charged with endangering the welfare of children. She is being held in Lancaster County Prison awaiting arraignment.
