The Colorado Rapids signed 16-year-old forward Darren Yapi to a five-year contract. He's the youngest to sign a pro deal in club history. The deal with the home-grown player includes a club option for an addition season. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Yapi spent most of last season training with the Rapids first team along with the Colorado Springs Switchbacks of the second-tier USL Championship. He signed a deal with the Switchbacks on July 31 that led to his pro debut on Aug. 1 at age 15. Yapi was selected Rapids Academy player of the year.

It was little help to United's faint title hopes or Chelsea's aim of securing Champions League qualification. Harvey Barnes had his good run of form cut short by a knee injury in Leicester’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal. Liverpool ended a losing run in the league with a 2-0 win at Sheffield United. Crystal Palace and Fulham drew 0-0.

Matthew Hoppe looks like he's just getting started. The 19-year-old American forward scored a hat trick in his third start for Schalke and followed up by scoring in each of his next two games.   He is already Schalke’s leading scorer this season with five goals and is arguably the team’s greatest hope of avoiding relegation after its woeful season so far. Schalke is in last place in the Bundesliga with only one win from 20 matches. Schalke needs a win at Union Berlin on Saturday to rekindle any hope of survival. Hoppe says his “biggest goal is to try and help Schalke stay in the Bundesliga."
