The Brooklyn Nets have acquired three-time scoring champion James Harden from the Houston Rockets, a deal that reunites him with Kevin Durant and gives him the move he has sought for weeks. Harden is going to the Nets as part of a deal that also involves Indiana and Cleveland. The Nets paid a heavy price, trading four players and giving Houston three first-round picks and the right to swap first-round picks four times. The deal was struck less than 24 hours after Harden seemed to deliver a farewell address to the Rockets on Tuesday night.

James Harden has publicly acknowledged his discord with the Houston Rockets for the first time following back-to-back blowout losses to the Los Angeles Lakers. He says the Rockets are “just not good enough" and he has “done everything that I can.” He added that "it's something that I don't think can be fixed. Harden had remained quiet through months of speculation that he is unhappy in Houston. He’s been asked repeatedly to address the trade rumors since the season began but has deflected questions and refused to reveal any frustration. That all changed after a 117-100 blowout loss to the Lakers on Tuesday night.

Houston star James Harden will be in quarantine until Friday, meaning he could be eligible to play Saturday when the Rockets are to finally open their season in Portland. The Rockets were scheduled to play Wednesday against Oklahoma City, a game that had to be postponed for a variety of coronavirus-related issues. Among them was Harden declared unavailable to play after the NBA determined he violated the league’s health and safety protocols.

James Harden is still a Houston Rocket as the NBA season approaches. He won't talk about his future with the team despite months of rumors that he wants to be traded. For now he'll lead a revamped team that added John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins and Christian Wood this offseason. The Rockets are intent on keeping Harden as they try to contend for their first title since winning back-to-back championships in 1994-95.
