ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Fans continue to wait for news about the Lehigh Valley IronPigs third baseman after a medical emergency during a game on Saturday.
In the bottom of the first inning during the 'Pigs' doubleheader in Rochester, Daniel Brito suffered a medical episode on the field, where he appeared to be lightheaded and staggering. The Rochester Red Wings third base coach and others helped steady Brito then helped him to the ground, before he was eventually taken off the field by an ambulance and taken to the hospital.
He underwent surgery at a Rochester hospital, but no update has been given on his condition.
The game was halted for the injury delay and never resumed. Sunday's game was later postponed as well, "in the best interest of the players & coaches for both teams following the medical emergency that occurred during game one of Saturday’s doubleheader," the Red Wings said in a statement.
"The IronPigs send our thoughts and prayers to Daniel Brito and his family as he continues to undergo medical evaluation in Rochester," the 'Pigs said in a statement Sunday.
